Been busy with Memphis birthday celebrations and other life stuff which is why I haven’t been writing.
My favourite corner in the kitchen now! And how it came about…
I recently found a utensil holder at the op shop and was wanting to update my utensils to wooden ones.
This gave me a good excuse to clean and reshuffle this corner of the kitchen and only place my favourite items here while I look out into my back garden watching my family play.
ISSUE
But what I really want to address in this article is this major issue of consuming more decorative objects for the holiday seasons.
I love celebrating the holidays like Easter, Halloween and Christmas etc however on social media it is becoming an overwhelming place to be as we get influenced to do more, diy more, buy more!!!
Don’t get me wrong I think homes that people transform for the holiday season look amazing and how far out people go to change them on Nov 1 for Christmas is cool but as much as I hit the like ♥️ button on the post it’s just something I will never be able to do… for a few reasons
I want my home to look like I’m celebrating the seasons as well as being as eco-friendly as possible and it’s really hard to find affordable decorations that are not plastic or being sold on AMAZON
Eco friendly decorations are usually a DIY craft projects. This tired mama can only do so many DIY’s. Even tho I have saved up enough toilet rolls and egg cartons to do them all… this mama wants to do less not more.
Finally trying to also be as minimal as possible because the idea of storing decorations is not my idea of fun 🤯
Oops another one is decorations that will look good and last year after year! Like this custom made HAPPY BIRTHDAY SIGN my mother sewn for the boys for us to use for their party every year. It’s a timeless pieces that I got so many compliments over the weekend.
REQUIREMENTS
So trying to find something that would be eco-friendly, minimal storage and that is cost effective was my requirements.
Now I had purchased a celebration ring this year in June for my son’s 2nd birthday as I knew I wasn’t going to be able to make a cake on holiday or decorate his room. I thought this was one thing I could bring and make the celebration special while we travelled. It was also going to be my birthday as well as Yia Yia’s while in Bali so it was going to get a lot of use.
I was surprised how much Phoenix played with it after we brought it back from our trip to Bali. We used it to identify numbers and animals placing them in the holder. It became like a puzzle for him to swap and change them around. I really had not considered it to be a toy for him to play with.
I thought I was going to be the one that loved it the most but it has been appreciated by all in our family.
The new Halloween figures we got this year were debated a lot in my head but I am sooooo happy I got them because what I really wanted this season was something that looked elegant yet simple and easy to manage.
1st Halloween 👻
This will be our first time introducing the kids to Halloween 🎃 if we do go out for a walk around the neighbourhood. I’m not a fan of the candy collecting for a 2 year old. However the fun of dressing up and seeing houses people decorate is something different for us to do one evening.
This inspires me to one day decorate our house but with wooden decorations… they do insist!!!
As I found a market stall 2 years ago called @palletandtread that turned used pallets into jack o lanterns and pumpkins 🎃 TOTALLY wish I got one of the pumpkins now and supported this small business.
CELEBRATION RING SOLUTION
The celebration ring is not only elegant and beautiful to watch my children play with but it also has so many uses 🫶🏽🙌🏽
💚 eco-friendly decorating in my home for the holiday
💛 a toy for my kids to play with
🧡 easy to store away when not in use
🩵 quality of the wood is incredible (use annually)
💙 when the kids get over using it I will still have it to decor the house
🎂 it’s not just for birthdays parties but it is fun to collect new figures for it. That my kids get to choose which ones go for the party.
My collection is small but I’m happy to slowing grow it as the seasons and holidays come. Based on what my kids are interested in or what holiday is up and coming. They are not exactly cheap but you can as many or as little as you like to make it look special in your home. I got the picture holders so we can place photos and update it with recent family pics.
It definitely solved this eco-minimalist decorating issue! This celebration ring is SIMPLE and elegant and I highly recommend if you are looking for less decorations and more elegance in your home decorating.
I also believe if your home is intentionally decorated with beautiful pieces you have collected over the years you wouldn’t need many pieces for them home to look decorated. Just going outside bring in nature is probably the best way to add colour and decorate your home. Autumn 🍂 isn’t our season in Australia so Halloween decor just like Christmas always looks a bit off. So try to stick with our natural seasons is best I think! Be unique and creative!
Less is MORE and in this case my simple window display is all I need for Halloween.🎃 👻 Until Phoenix asks for it to be put on the counter to be played with again.
Thanks for reading lots of love 🧡
