A Day In Our Life Of Slowness
Captured through photography vs. video, which aligns with the theme of slowness and the art of photography and its development process. Enjoy the result
I wouldn’t say I’m unmotivated this week, but I have struggled to vibe on any of the ideas I wanted to write about. I guess my brain fog/pregnancy fatigue is kicking in. And if I live in my values of slow livin’, I will listen to my body and lay down more vs. write ✍️ all day.
As Phoenix went down for his first nap and I went outside to get some garden tools to plant some 🌻 seeds at the front, it clicked 📸 Why don’t I share with you more of my creative self, which I have not really done in awhile and get my DSLR camera out and do some photography.
I feel like the art of photography is gone with a camera on our phones that can take just as good photos as a DSLR camera and with less hassle of uploading them. However, no matter what, my favourite photos are still ones that I capture with my DSLR camera, as there is so much more depth in a photo that just screams a story behind the photo, unlike anything you can get from phone cameras.
Plus, photography also aligns with my values of slowing down as I have to carry my camera around all day, and when I see a moment, I snap it.
But then I have to wait to upload it to my laptop to edit it to share it with you all. There is a process, and the editing process has never been my favourite part of photography as my fast-paced mindset wants the results and doesn’t want to take time editing photos. But now I see maybe that’s what I needed as a reminder that art in any form takes time to process.
But my other reason editing has always bothered me is because memory storage on my 10+ years laptop needs an upgrade to work more smoothly with the content I want to create digitally.
One of the intentions I set when I created this Substack publication was to inspire my community whilst still being a mama. Still, with the support of my readers, I would use the subscription money received towards upgrading my laptop 💻 before it crashes🤓 I’ve been upgrading it for years with batteries to keep her running. She has had an excellent lifespan as I’ve only owned 2 Apple MacBooks for the past 20 years, which I feel like every decade I can upgrade.
So, with your support, I have already started receiving some paid subscribers. THANK YOU SO MUCH... I have put that money aside for my big purchase. I only need 28 more subscribers to reach my first 💻 goal.
Reishi mushrooms are the only supplement other than my prenatal supplements that have been supporting me through both pregnancies now. The goal is to create another Reishi Baby aka Calm Baby. But they are great to help relieve stress and anxiety and so much more.
Phoenix had been wanting my cacao drink in the morning, so I got this Choc Whiz for him so we could drink our morning hot beverage together.
Someone has woken up from his nap.
We attempted to garden together outside, but without a fence and the heat today, we decided to go back inside with much protest by Phoenix, but mama couldn’t chase him around.
I planted my giant sunflower seeds along the back of the garden (whilst Phoenix napped), hoping they would create a beautiful backdrop for this year’s garden. They should sprout in 2 weeks…fingers crossed!
I got bitten by mozzies when planting.… not that you can see the big bump on my ring finger knuckle, but lavender oil stops the itching if you ever need a quick remedy.
I hope these photos show you the beauty in our life of slowness, nature, motherhood, gardening, wellness, good food, all the things I love most about my life right now. Except Tony, who is missing from this A Day In Our Life Of Slowness as he is away working this week.
Thanks for reading with so much gratitude
Love Kim x
